Tents are one again set up in Kitchener’s Victoria Park for the annual Tent City protest.
People have gathered in the park to speak out against gentrification.
Organizer Julian Ichim tells 570 News that new developments are making the city’s downtown unaffordable and hostile toward the homeless.
“People that buy condos in the downtown don’t buy in the downtown. They usually go to box stores. There’s a fear of walking in the downtown as a result of class contradictions and we are seeing more and more stores close.
The protesters plan to stay in Victoria Park throughout the week.
