Call to support the migrant and refugee mutual aid center in Tijuana, Mexico.
The radical migrant/refugee movement Contra Viento y Marea has run the El Comedor space in Tijuana for half a decade now. They act as a hub of mutual aid where volunteers provide vital hot meals and necessities, including PPE, to those who need them and are in touch with those needs because they themselves are migrants/refugees.
Through the years El Comedor has expanded on what was a space with only a kitchen to include a community garden, host pop-up health and legal clinics, and so on with their latest project being a community free school and art lab for the many children that are making the difficult journey north.
The volunteers at El Comedor are unpaid and while they live and provide off of non-monetary mutual aid they still need help covering their rent after efforts to liberate housing proved untenable. After paying this months rent they currently do not have enough funds to pay next months. We are asking for compas to give whatever they can and to share El Comedor’s story and their ask for support.
Hopefully one day we can get enough monthly donors on their patreon they and their rent support crew won’t have to worry about rent and can focus on expanding their capacities. So please consider signing up for monthly support or making a one time donation. Anything helps and many hands make light work.
