It’s Going Down: October

Originally posted to It’s Going Down

A million thank you to everyone that helped us and donated throughout the month of September. The response and solidarity that we got through that busy month was amazing and definitely added to our confidence that IGD can be a sustainable project that can grow and expand in the coming terrain.

September was definitely a period of growth and exposure for us. Last month we got hit up by a wide variety of corporate and mainstream news media outlets about the unfolding prison strike and also got a lot of props along with our comrades at Unicorn Riot and Submedia about our coverage of unfolding revolts and social struggles happening across North America.

This experience has only solidified our belief that revolutionary movements need their own media. Not media that comes from bureaucrats and party managers that seeks to implement just a Leftist version of the status-quo, but truly an open, critical, and engaging platform that looks hard at social struggles and movements and discusses their weaknesses and their strengths. That asks the tough questions and starts conversations about what it would mean to build a material force capable of creating a new world and destroying the current systems of domination.

With your help, we’ve come a long way.

My, How We’ve Grown

IGD grew a lot this month. About 30,000 different people came to the website and on average, about 900 – 1,200 people visited us per day.

Our social media reach also grew a lot this month. On twitter we received about 790,000 impressions (our biggest yet) and currently are gaining about 23 followers per day and our facebook continues to grow at a fast rate as well. While of course we are critical of the idea of social media as an end all in itself, the growth of IGD on these mediums has made it harder for the stories and ideas that we promote to be ignored and has worked to bring more people to us.

Further more, we also think that the use of these mediums has worked towards another one of our goals: getting people off the internet and involved in actually doing something.

Top Coverage and Stories

This month, stories about the national prison strike grabbed the most hits, but other articles and interviews that drew in a lot of readers included coverage on the Charlotte Rebellion, a back to basics primer on dropping banners, an interview with N.o. Bonzo, and also a story from Philly Antifa about a police officer who was outed as a white supremacist.

We also got knee deep into the podcast game and have plans to do many more. Remember, you can find all of them here.

This Month

This month we have several goals:

  • Continue our coverage of the unfolding national prison strike. Daily updates on prison rebellions, strikes, and actions as well as news on national and international resistance and solidarity. This also means more interviews and reporting from prisoners directly to us.
  • Continued columns. As you can see from the latest offerings of Insumision, Bloc Party, and All the News, things are only getting better.
  • More podcasts. We have some great stuff planned for you. So stay hungry. Also, if you want to be on the show, email us at info [at] itsgoingdown [dot] org.
  • More original featured content. This means more original articles straight from IGD with all the critical analysis that you have come to expect.
  • Cementing a dope AF t-shirt design to be finished this month.
  • Working on a draft of a new issue of the IGD magazine, to be finished by the end of the year.
  • Continuing to meet our fundraising goal through donations and monthly sustainers.

How to Donate and Help Us Grow

There are several ways you can help IGD grow and expand in October.

  1. Make a donation. Sign up to make a monthly donation through paypal on your credit/debit card here. We are looking for monthly sustainers that can donate every month to us. Even a donation of $5-20 really helps us. If 1,000 people gave us just $5 a month, we would be in great shape and could really start to expand. This is our goal, but it is a slow process and it depends on the tens of thousands of people that interact, write for, and use IGD every month for solidarity and mutual aid. We also thankfully except one time donations through paypay and bitcoin. So please, put some money in the tip-jar! Help us grow, expand, and build. We can’t do it without you!
  2. Write an article, action report, do a podcast, piece of analysis, or conduct an interview and submit it too us. Let us know what is going down in your area. We are especially looking for coverage of the unfolding resistance to the Dakota Access Pipeline. Don’t wait for someone else to write about it – we need your voice! Put your town on the map, from the smallest hole in the wall to major cities; from the trailer parks to the rez to the hood, rep your squad! Contribute here or email us at: info [at] itsgoingdown [dot] org.
  3. Follow us on social media and share our stuff! Follow us on twitter here and facebook here.
  4. Share IGD with people outside of anarchist and autonomous anti-capitalist circles. For us to build our movement, we need to reach out to all poor and working class people, not just inside political subcultures. Help push IGD outside of the confines of a scene and into the rest of the world.

Thanks for all your support and we look forward to the month of October and the path ahead!
