Portland, OR: Beautifying the Streets in Preparation for May Day

Here at the Committee Uniting Neighborhoods Through Signage, we’ve been busy making sure no one misses out on the pro-worker, antifascist fun this upcoming Monday. Our art department has been churning out piece after piece of beautiful propaganda covering May Day. We’ve got your safe, fun, family friendly “General Strike” flyers so sanitized in imagery that even your grandmother will feel included (we hope she brings those delicious oatmeal raisin cookies this year!). We don’t want you anarchists in the crowd feeling left out, either. We created a couple special designs with calls to action and instructions to bloc up just for y’all. We even made one with a brick through the window of those capitalist bastards at Bank of Amerika. Rebel, rebel!! Our art department is also fond of Emma Goldman’s quote about dancing at revolutions and wanted to make sure we all remember to smile while we give all the Richard Spencers of Portland the ol’ one-two. With that said, check out our wacky use of comic sans and our delightful cartoon about a girl and her dog and Mondays.

Our street team really pounded the pavement hard this year, and ya gotta love a city who’s local shops are willing to let you put up May Day literature in their window. Although we’ve done a pretty good job of painting the town in black and red, cut backs in the George Soros Fund For Leftists* has resulted in major layoffs and we’ve only got a handful of neighborhood kids left to do the work (they work for pizza). Anyone who is really mad at the man and wants to make sure their friends and family know how to properly vent that frustration or just any proud blue collar worker who recognizes that the wealth of a few has been built on the backs of the many could really help us out by creating their own flyers to distribute or by posting pictures of existing flyers on their social medias (we respect that some of y’all may be uncomfortable with the idea of linking images with your name, but we hope to see everyone in the streets).

Finally, stay tuned sometime near the end of the week when we drop a big announcement. Literally. Drop. Like…a banner. Do you see what we did there? As one last big reminder for the masses, we hired some professional sign painters to professionally paint a sign for the displaying on the roadways. Keep your eyes peeled, and take lots of selfies with it!

*This is what most people would call sarcasm. It’s a joke, y’all. Anarchists can be funny, too. Any fascists, racists, or Big Orange supporters who actually believe there’s a George Soros fund for radicals should check out Anarchist Black Cross’s bank statements and marvel at how so much can be done with so little actual funding.
