Report on recent prison action in North Carolina. Originally published to Perilous Chronicle.
A group of prisoners at the Neuse Correctional Institution staged a protest Thursday afternoon after receiving news that two prisoners at the facility had tested positive for COVID-19.
According to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, the prisoners from different dorms came outside and refused orders from staff and the warden to return to their cells. In a statement, the North Carolina Department of Public Safety stated that the event “can be best characterized as an organized offender protest.”
