Abolitionists Protest at Home of Wisconsin Prison Boss Over COVID-19 Deaths

Report on recent protest at the home of Wisconsin Department of Corrections (DOC) Secretary over ongoing deaths of inmates due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This report was anonymously sent to It’s Going Down which we reprint below.

At 6:15 am on Wednesday, December 2nd, some abolitionists dropped body bags on DOC Secretary Carr’s driveway and then confronted him. We are demanding that Carr publicly urge Governor Evers to issue an emergency mass clemency or sentence commutation due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

We intend to continue pressuring DOC employees. Governor Evers has demonstrated a callous disregard for incarcerated people, as well as an ignorance and general disinterest in the prison system. We believe that targeting DOC employees, who cannot ignore the prison crisis from the shelter of the Governor’s mansion will provide a new form of leverage.

We intend to find people in the DOC staff or Evers administration with enough integrity and humanity left to defect and join the call for protecting incarcerated people from the pandemic.

Cautiously hopeful,

Some Abolitionists
