Members of Arkansas Rising have once again successfully disrupted construction on the Diamond Pipeline that would carry oil from Oklahoma to a refinery in eastern Arkansas. On March 20 water protector Tyler Hamilton locked down to pipeline equipment at a construction site in Pope County, AR. After several hours of disrupting construction, Hamilton was arrested and hit with trumped up charges including felony criminal mischief. The company, Delta Directional Drilling, is claiming that his action caused over $7 million in lost work. Not too shabby for a one person lock down!
This action comes after several other acts of civil disobedience by Arkansas Rising against the Diamond Pipeline, including a day long blockade of the refinery that the oil will be destined for. The planned 440-mile pipeline by Plains All American Pipeline and Valero Energy Corp. would threaten protected species, historic sites, and at least five major rivers in Arkansas.
