Chesapeake Earth First! Disrupt Virginia Energy Policy Forum

From Earth First! Newswire

On Friday Morning around 8:15 am, right in the middle of Registration for the Virginia Energy Policy Forum, at the Hampton Roads Convention Center in Hampton, Virginia, 4 protesters from Chesapeake Earth First! snuck in the lobby and dropped two banners over the balcony. The banners displayed the phrases “Dump Dominion” and “No Pipelines” which targeted Dominion Resources, whose CEO, Tom Farrell, was present at the event. The protesters showered the forum attendees with phrases like “Dump Dominion”, “Save Cove Point”, “No Pipelines”, and “No LNG Exports”. Hampton Police approached protesters, telling them they had to leave, at which point, they left (two of the protesters are still finalizing their court case after an action against Dominion in February), carrying the banners, while continuing to shout “Fuck Dominion”.

Around noon, protesters from Beyond Extreme Energy, boldly interrupted the Keynote Speech by U.S. Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz with a banner displaying “NO LNG EXPORT” and  “Guys, we ain’t asking Clean Energy Now”. Steve Norris gave a short speech before being escorted out by police. “We are here to say ‘NO to LNG exports,’ ” Norris called out. “No to fracked gas. No to the climate change that they will produce. We are here to save Cove Point, which has one of the largest LNG facilities in the East Coast [and] is being built by Dominion Resources. We are sorry to interrupt you, Secretary Moniz, but this is a message that does not seem to be being heard well here.”
