Prisoners at Ware Prison outside of Atlanta, Georgia are facing post-rebellion repression. The following is a call from Atlanta IWOC to take part in a phone-zap to demand better conditions for prisoners. To read about the recent rebellion, go here.
Updates from inside as of August 10th.
- They are being fed spoiled food
- Commissary is restricted, prohibiting them from supplementing their diet
- All communication is restricted, whether thru emails, phone or mail.
- “We don’t have stamps and the warden said we ain’t getting any.”
- They didn’t receive any incoming meal for a week.
- Being left in their cells, no officer on post, meaning their health is at stake.
- Being denied showers, hot meals, and clean water.
A statement from inmates read:
We are now receiving one hot meal for dinner. The food is awful because they are letting the inmates from M building prepare the meals. These inmates are not cooks they work outside detail. We are receiving spoiled baloney and peanut butter for breakfast and lunch. The balcony is brown and smells horrible. I have only ate the bread because i know that meat will make me sick. We are complaining about the meat but they keep giving it to us. No one is eating it. Its either just eat the bread the meat has not touched or starve.
We still have not had store. We have not been allowed to communicate with our family thru emails, phone or mail. We don’t have stamps and the warden said we ain’t getting any. No one will take the out going mail for the guys who still had a stamp or two in there possession. The officer passed out in coming mail to us for the first time on Saturday night. We have had 2 showers in 10 days last week on Tuesday and Friday.
We have not had a shower this week yet. We are still locked in our rooms with no officer on post. Last week on Friday night a inmate became sick. We had to flash our lights in the rooms and hollar out the windows to get the attention of the perimeter car in order to get him medical attention. We have not heard from him since. His property is still in his room but we don’t know if he died or what.
We are still being mistreated. Nothing has changed. And we are still asking for help. No one should be put in a position of eat food that will make you sick or starve. No one should be put in a position of going days without a bath. Especially now with the caronavirus in circulation. You are supposed to wash your hands what about our body? No one should be put in such a position.

Hello, I am calling in support of those who live inside Ware State Prison. What happened on August 2nd was due to the negligence and intentional harm from those who manage WSP. The people inside do no deserve your retaliation and need to be given hot meals, potable water, showers, other sanitary improvements, and air conditioning during this hot GA summer. Your facility also needs to finally react to this COVID 19 pandemic, to protect the lives of people inside.
