On New Years Eve a few of us gathered in downtown Omaha, unfurled a banner, and walked to the Douglas County Jail. With a simple sound system and something to bang on we spent close to an hour in the cold making noise and dancing outside. More than 40 people trapped inside jumped up to the windows to see what was going on outside. We communicated with shouts and hand signals while they banged on the windows, twirled their shirts and waved. While making a ruckus, a random car drove by on the street, blaring it’s horn while a raised fist was stuck out the window. Not connected to our own protest, this was probably someone with a friend or partner locked up on New Year’s Eve with the same thought as us, let them know there are people out there thinking of them.
2017 here we come!
