Scotia, CA: Lockdown at Main Logging Truck Entry Gate

Report from Save the Mattole Ancient Forest on a recent action in the ongoing campaign in Northern California.

Today, 87 year old Jack Nounnan locked himself to the main log truck entry gate at the lumber mill in Scotia, CA to protest deforestation in the Mattole and globally.

He is calling out Humboldt Redwood Company’s role in the current climate crisis and taking action to interrupt the flow of logging trucks that pass through this gate.

Jack stayed locked down for several hours. When the Humboldt County Sheriff arrived, they used a grinder and bandsaw to cut through the gate itself. Jack refused to release from his lockbox, however, and was later released with citations and the lockbox in tow.
