Anarchists and revolutionaries mark the one year anniversary of the George Floyd rebellion in Rockford, IL.
The one year Anniversary of the Rockford Rebellion was marked by dismissive language from various government officials, cop supporters and unfortunately well known activists throughout the city. The events that occurred on May 30th cannot be reduced to troublemakers or white outside agitators. Rather it was a much needed reminder that the community holds the true power. Uprisings materialize as a result of drawn-out oppressive tactics and senseless violence against oppressed people. This spontaneous action must never be forgotten, as it serves as a reminder of the fragile power the police hold. As we know this Rebellion was just the beginning, we appreciate those on the ground on May 30th and those who are continuing the revolutionary presence in Rockford. We resist state sanctioned violence and continue to lift up the voices of the unheard. For these reasons, we stand with the Rockford Rebels, Rioters and Looters. Screaming “fuck the police” and demanding Black Liberation NOW!
“When we revolt it’s not for a particular culture. We revolt simply because, for many reasons, we can no longer breathe.”
– Franz Fanon
“It is our duty to fight for our freedom.
It is our duty to win.
We must love each other and support each other.
We have nothing to lose but our chains.”
– Assata Shakur
