We want to present the artwork created by our compañero Marcelino Ruiz Gómez from inside the prison CERSS No. 10 in Comitán, Chiapas, Mexico. These works show that despite confinement, the creativity and commitment of our compañero has not diminished. On the contrary, it has gained an impressive strength.
We want to highlight that Marcelino is a prisoner in struggle, unjustly imprisoned and a victim of torture carried out by those who claim to protect the people. Due to the torture, Marcelino was forced to incriminate himself for a crime he did not commit. He has been in prison since 2002. Together with other prisoners, Marcelino formed the organization, Vineketik en Resistencia inside CERSS No. 10 in Comitán in March of 2019. The organization took shape in the context of a coordinated hunger strike carried out by different prisoners in struggle in various prisons in Chiapas. Joining the hunger strike, they made their organization known. After the release of several members of the organization, only one prisoner from the organization remains: Marcelino Ruiz Gómez.
