“Ask for work. If they do not give you work, ask for bread. If they do not give you bread, then take bread.” – Emma Goldman
“Fuck work.” – Us
June 11th is the international day of solidarity with our anarchist comrades behind bars. In honor of their sacrifices, we want to use this day to show the world what anarchism means. Right now, “anarchism” is on the lips of everyone from leftists, to yuppies, to mainstream media. The moment is ripe to show that we are more than just the black bloc. We are also dedicated to mutual aid and supporting our communities.
To that end, we are putting out a call to all anarchists across Portland to gather as much food as they can by any means necessary to distribute along with literature at Tom McCall Waterfront Park. We were recently asked (rather sarcastically) in an Op-Ed piece featured in the Oregonian (“Portland Must Be Done With Punk Fascists: Opinion”) what anarchism means to us. Let our deeds speak for themselves.
We feel the best way to achieve our goals is for any interested organizations or affinity groups to stockpile enough ready-to-eat food to feed 100 people or as much as you are capable. Stick to prepackaged, unhandled food to prevent interference based on health code issues.
If you want to have a table, then bring a table. If you want to have a bike bloc, then bring a bike. If you want to give out literature, then bring literature. We recommend beginner-level, primer-style works but use your own judgment.
That there are hungry people in such a wealthy country is a travesty. That food is thrown away by the dumpster-full is ridiculous. That a restaurant worker cannot afford to eat at the place they work is absurd.
Fuck this shit, feed the people.
