Chicago Actions To Spread Word Of The Prison Strike

Report from Chicago about how people are spreading the word about the upcoming #PrisonStrike.

Comrades in Chicago have done three actions in the past two days attempting to spread the word of the strike into the local carceral facilities. On Sunday, a large sound system and banner was brought to La Villita park, immediately facing the rec yard of Cook County Jail, and an announcement about the strike was played, as a large orange banner was unfurled. Dozens of prisoners playing basketball cheered and shouted in reply, eventually causing the guards to bring everyone inside.

Folks then went to the roof of the parking garage opposite the juvenile prison facility at Ogden & Roosevelt, where the announcement was played and the banner was dropped.

Then last night, folks went to the Metropolitan Correctional Facility, the federal prison facility downtown. On the roof of the parking garage facing the cell blocks, a generator was pulled out of the back of a car, and a projection announcing the strike was made on a wall of the opposing office building. Inmates in almost every single cell began banging on windows, cheering, flashing their ceiling lights on and off, and waving. Fireworks were set off and a large banner was dropped off the parking garage building, before security came and kicked people out. No arrests were made.
