The fight to win hearts and minds continues in the capitol city of Lansing, Michigan. Efforts by local activist groups to expose the public to anti-racist, anti-fascist perspectives have been successful in this community, and MAKE RACISTS AFRAID AGAIN is now a common phrase to see on the streets of this city.
We spoke with folks who have been on the frontlines of this fight, concentrating their efforts on wheatpasting posters, stickering and graffiti on the east side of the city, and beyond. Lightposts, alleyway walls, and abandoned and foreclosed properties have all been transformed into outlets for spreading their message.
The local action groups also targeted a fraternity at Michigan State University widely known to be associated with Identity Europa, a white supremacist organization. The front and back doors to their house were wheatpasted with posters reading, ‘ALL YOU FASCISTS BOUND TO LOSE’, and mock ‘wanted’ posters with their leader’s face and personal information.
Right wing trolls have been scrawling poorly drawn swastikas over some of the posters, clearly with full-fisted grasps on their markers. These actions, however, have turned out to be a boon for the anti-racist cause. Within hours, these drawings were covered up, and photos of the idiots responsible were spread to local businesses and members of the community. It is clear from the outpouring of their support that hate speech is not welcome in Lansing.
Despite the reach that their propaganda already has, these groups have no plans of slowing down. They will continue furthering their message and shutting down misguided attempts to spread hate in their community until this fight is over and the trolls have gone back to their basements!
