The following is a call for solidarity and action on April 10th with J20 defendants.
On January 20th, 2017, over 200 people were mass arrested for protesting the inauguration of Donald Trump. In a shocking display of state repression, prosecutors charged the protesters with multiple felony charges including “rioting” and “conspiracy to riot.” These charges could carry a penalty of more than 60 years in prison.
By standing together, refusing plea deals, and courageously taking their cases to trial, the J20 defendants have been pushing back. The prosecutor’s case has fallen apart: since the first trial, over 130 people have been acquitted or had their charges dropped! However, the fight is far from over. 59 people are still facing decades in prison.
These prosecutions are very literally an act of state terror. They want to have a chilling effect on resistance in America. On Tuesday, April 10th, defendants are calling for an international day of solidarity. Get involved by planning or plugging into a local action through the Defend J20 Resistance network.
It could be a film screening, a call for a day of action, a banner drop, a radical trivia night, get creative! Here are flyers you can print to advertise your event if you don’t have time to make your own!
