An Introduction to Anti-Fascism in Australia

In so-called Australia, the emergence of far-Right movement Reclaim in July/August 2014 opened the political space for a number of new neo-fascist groups like the United Patriots Front (UPF) and True Blue Crew, while reinvigorating older radical-right political parties like Pauline Hanson’s One Nation, which now holds a number of seats in the Australian Senate.
Like the American Alt-Right, these groups, particularly the UPF, have tried to build a slick neo-fascist movement, riding a wave of anti-immigrant sentiment and growing social and material anxiety as the Australian economy continues to stagnate.
As a colonial nation built on the ongoing exploitation and murder of Aboriginal people, the Australian far-right have found allies in the police and have benefited from the racism on which Australian society is founded.
To build their movement Australian fascists and their fellow travellers have, like their American counterparts, hosted events like marches and meetings in major cities, as well as in migrant communities in an attempt to flex their muscles.
Unfortunately for them, antifascists have sent them packing every single time.
The video is a collection of footage from some direct actions across the country since 2014.
As Durruti said: ‘Fascism is not to be debated. It is to be smashed.’
