On the morning of July 4th, an upside-down american flag with a circle A and burn holes was put up for display on a train bridge in downtown Elgin, Illinois. In addition to the flag, anarchist literature was found scattered below on the sidewalk and in nearby neighborhoods. The literature reads:
On this 4th of july, ask yourself, are you happy with the political climate of this country? Are you constantly disappointed by elections and having to choose between awful candidates? Or how about work…does your job suck the life out of you everyday? Be honest with yourself. We don’t work every damn day because we enjoy it. There are better things we’d rather spend life doing. But we do so at the constant threat of losing the resources we need to survive. Those we work for maintain a monopoly on these resources, therefore we remain submissive to their demands. What kind of life is this to have? And things are getting worse every year. Government is getting bigger. Bosses and landlords are getting richer. The cost of living is rising while we’re being pushed down. We have been fooled all along.
This system is the negation of freedom built upon the ashes of destroyed communities and murdered Native people – a process still happening today. Our daily consumer comforts (television, phones, computers etc.) are intended to pacify and distract us from the bigger picture and real problems. Just take a look around you. Everything you see built with the threat of poverty. Work or starve. This isn’t freedom. So what do we do? That is a question answered on an individual basis. But many of us across the globe have decided to resist and fight back. There is no better time than now to rise up against capitalism, the state and those who seek to destroy our capacity to be free. Our passion for freedom is bigger than their prisons. Our dreams are bigger than their banks. If you dream to be free, arm your desires with action! We are everywhere. Where are you?”
