In solidarity with communities under constant attack by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement), some local anarchists put up banners over the highway in Milwaukee today during rush hour.
We estimate the banners stayed up for about two hours, during the busiest traffic of the day. When they went up, we couldn’t hear each other because cars were honking and people were shouting their support from below.
A mistake was made in placing the pink one, but we didn’t realize it until it was too late. Definitely talked it over during the debrief and will be better prepared next time.
We remind all our readers that direct action can take many forms. While we fully support occupations and other confrontational actions, there is work to be done at every level of risk.
Calling our senators, signing petitions, sharing memes on social media – these make us feel better about ourselves. The time to take direct action is now. Look up how to drop and hoist banners. Make some wheatpaste with your friends. Build a life-size ICE agent pinata. Be creative, all we have to lose are our chains.
