This Monday, July 17, marks three years since Eric Garner was murdered by the New York City Police Department. To observe the occasion, Garner’s family has called for a day-long occupation of Tompkinsville Park – just across from 202 Bay Street, where he was killed. There will be MTA fare-shares, urban gardening and workshops on cop watching, cyber security, self-defense and more. Sponsor organizations include The Legacy Eric Garner Left Behind, Staten Island Against Racism and Police Brutality, Why Accountability, Afrikans Helping Afrikans, New York City IWW General Defense Committee, Coalition to End Broken Windows, and NYC IWW Incarcerated Workers Organizing Committee.

Yes, it’s a Monday, but so what? Unarmed black people are murdered by the police on Mondays. This Monday marks the legacy that Eric Garner left behind, but not in vain. In power, we will build.
With no justice from the justice system, we will take justice into our own hands by realizing that strong communities make police obsolete. On Monday we will occupy Bay Street with culture, education, love and pride. Join us.
If you are unable to make it in person, please consider donating online and sharing both this appeal and event widely: https://fundrazr.com/01EOO8?ref=sh_46bPE2
