ALLEGHENY COUNTY JAIL IS A DEATH TRAP.
On the morning of June 29th, a banner was dropped on the footbridge of Duqesne University, a prestige catholic school that overlooks the county jail.
As the banner hangs, wealthy, white early morning joggers cross the bridge on Duqesne’s campus as glance at the inmate’s cells of a jail with some of the worst health conditions in the country.
Since April of this year, three inmates have died in the Allegheny County Jail due to abuse, neglect, and disgusting conditions. ACJ is Pittsburgh’s local segment of the modern day slave plantation, murdering and enslaving people while profiting the state.
Earlier this year, 80 inmates participated in a sit-down strike to protest the conditions inside the jail. On the outside, noise demos were organized in solidarity with the strikers which led to 11 arrests. Protesters are still facing charges.
Acts of resistance against jails and prisons must continue in Pittsburgh and everywhere. We are not free until everyone is free.
