Portland, OR: Flyers Against Transphobia at PCC

For a long time now, y’all have been using the bathroom with trans and nonbinary individuals mere feet away. Horrifyingly, we must also use the bathroom. Yes, we urinate and defecate. We have urethras and assholes.

The thing is, for just as long, this institution has been committed to the very fucked up notion that our bathrooms are binary. That our genders are binary. That our genitalia are binary.

You would’ve thought that the policy our arrogant, cisgender administrators believes is theirs to decide would reflect a more nuanced appreciation of how to share mutual space for mutual needs.

We will not let them pretend that their hesitancy to publicly acknowledge that our bathrooms are not, and have never been binary, is somehow for our safety. Trans and nonbinary individuals are assaulted, bullied, raped, and murdered every day. This cowardice is represented across the nation in a tally of bruises and bodies and stories which cisgender people have actively chosen not to believe — even when witnessed. We will not allow their binary representative policies, which are the roots of these hateful acts, to endanger us any further. We will not allow body policing of any kind.

If PCC is to unravel the oppression that is woven into this institution, then the administration will immediately begin providing multi-stall, all-gender restrooms in every building of every campus and center.

In the meantime, these bathrooms have been liberated from the gender binary.
