The following anonymous report and photos were submitted to It’s Going Down, and details a response to the police killing of Quanice “Moose” Hayes, a 17-year old who was shot and killed by Portland police in early 2017.
An unknown group in Portland, Oregon has been maintaining the memory of Quanice “Moose” Hayes, murdered by Portland Police Officer andrew hearst* (*Moose’s family asks that we not capitalize the killer’s name) on February 9th, 2017.
Since Moose’s death and the refusal to try his murderer, there have been repeated installations of memorium posters at the site of his death. These posters have also been seen in other parts of town, including near the mayor’s house.
The group also interrupted a “Coffee With a Cop” event hosted by a local Starbucks by wheatpasting posters of Quanice and Terrell Johnson, another young Black man recently murdered by Portland police, over the windows and doors of the coffee shop in the early hours of the morning. We hear they also put a substance in the locks to further delay the store opening.
The posters made a recent resurgence on the anniversary of Moose’s death, just in time to show solidarity at a vigil hosted by his family.
