On the day of March 25th, 2018, Joey Gibson and his band of Islamophobic clowns came into Spokane trying to promote his bid for Washington State Senator – a gag-inspiring thought. As readers may know, Gibson and Patriot Prayer are infamous for their own peculiar syncretic nightmare brand of Randian christian nationalism and their hardline xenophobic rhetoric. While Gibson himself is a person of color who disavows fascism and white supremacy, it hasn’t really stopped the fash trash from seeing parallels between their movements.

When stripped down to its core, Gibson’s ideology is simply one part distrust of all immigrants and three parts burning hatred for all Muslims, who he sees as incompatible with his vision of a Christian American dominion. Perhaps the most frightening thing about Patriot Prayer is that it does not alarm most people like outright fascism would, even while mainstreaming ideas that are fascistic in nature.
For this reason and others, Spokane’s 161 Angry Cats deployed a banner on the morning of the rally, hanging from the train overpass above Walnut St. downtown. The banner asks our unwanted guest a simple question in a language he understands: “Joey, do you love ALL of your neighbors?” and includes a handy link to a list of complaints that several community organizations have signed onto.
We want Joey and his gang of bigots to go home and stop bothering our Muslim and immigrant neighbors – neighbors we happen to love and care about. Patriot Prayer, on the other hand, isn’t welcome in Spokane!
