This playlist, “Still Rising #1,” is dedicated to Heather Heyer and the other 19 injured in the August 12th car terrorist attack in Charlottesville VA, as well as the tens of thousands around the world who protested in solidarity with Heather. The playlist is also in Solidarity with the Millions For Prisoners March which will be taking place on Saturday August 19th, 2017; Not to mention two other historical events that occurred on August 19th: 1st edition of IWWs little red songbook published 1909, NAACP youth council begins sit-ins to desegregate lunch counters in Oklahoma 1958. Track #12 is an original remix I made.
In shock, I witnessed as EMTs performed CPR attempting to resuscitate Heather Heyer as she slowly died on a stretcher being transported towards an ambulance. She had been struck by a white nationalist, James Fields, who drove his dodge challenger at 40MPH into an antifascist march. All this in response to the impending removal of a statue of Robert E. Lee. Trump responded at one press conference saying, “George Washington was a slave owner. So will George Washington lose his status? Are we gonna take down statues to George Washington?” And so Trump brings to the forefront of our thought how the historical basis for his privilege was built by african slaves on stolen land.
Seeing the Sinjar Women’s Protection Units from Iraq standing in solidarity with Heather Heyer and the fight against fascism reminded me again of the hypocrisy and false base upon which the far-right operates. While counter-protesting the “unite the right” rally in Charlottesville I spotted an armored man wearing a ‘Fuck ISIS’ patch. Despite this patch, it was his side that day which decided to use ISIS style tactics of ramming crowds of civilians to death with a car, as seen across Europe. In reality, the Alt-Right fights on the same side as the Islamic State. It is the Alt-Right’s nemesis, the anarchists, who have joined the Kurdish people in Syria on the battleground in the fight against ISIS, as recently seen in Raqqa. These events reinforce my presumptions that the right is only interested in crushing vulnerable and minority communities in the united states, such as muslims, to benefit their own self interest, greed, and to satiate their masters.
Heather’s last facebook post was: “If you’re not outraged, you’re not paying attention.”
