Statement from the Colectiva Micelias following the violent attack on the transfeminist compañera Donaji by officials/plainclothes police of the government of Mexico City.
Today in Alameda Central Park in Mexico City, one of our compañeras Donají was the victim of a violent and transphobic attack carried out by two government officials, belonging to the group “reordering of the public streets.”
With brutal use of force, these two men subdued our compañera, who ended up with serious bruises on her face.
Mexico is a country with one of the highest rates of transfemicides in the world, and the state sustains and exercises this violence. These two government officials, as shown in the photographs, took off their burgundy vest uniforms to attack our compañera.
The evidence also shows that although there was a group of police officers present, they didn’t detain any of the subjects, acting as accomplices to the violence and omission.
We denounce and demand an end to the brutal repression of which we have been victim since the beginning of our street market in protest against economic violence. We call on collectives, human rights associations, independent media, to support us and spread the word.
Today we will respond with a demonstration and the closing of Avenida Eje Central in Mexico City.
Not one step back.
Stop the brutal repression against women who exercise our right to free protest.
