Week of Solidarity with Anarchist Prisoners: Free Jorge “Yorch” Esquivel!

Today, on this first day of the International Week of Solidarity with Anarchist Prisoners, Jorge «Yorch» Esquivel has been a hostage of the Mexican State within the walls of the Reclusorio Oriente prison for 259 days. 259 days and nights stolen from his life that no one will be able to return to him. The main reason he is behind bars is the very existence of the prison industrial complex, the repressive «security» apparatus of the State, and the forms of punishment that will never reintegrate, reform or heal anyone, but quite the opposite.

The specific reason in Jorge’s case is the fabrication of crimes as part of a set-up created by the UNAM university in order to criminalize the struggle as part of their twisted obsession with evicting the Okupa Che squat, but only with the approval of the community of people whose opinion is important to them in order to maintain their esteemed reputation in Mexico and abroad.

If they wanted to, the authorities would have every «right» to evict the squat and imprison whoever is inside the space at the time of a police operative with the legal claim of dispossession of their property, but since that would damage said reputation, it has been more convenient for them to orchestrate what started with a media campaign of contempt that reduced Okupa Che and those who participate in it, to a space of violent pseudo-student criminals dedicated to selling drugs to the innocent saints of the UNAM student community, among other criminal activities. For that, they found the perfect person to play the role of the main protagonist of their imaginitive yet totally false narrative, and that person was and continues to be our compañero Jorge, who is a punk and an anarchist, a cook (his mixiote tacos are highly addictive, we’ll give you that!) and an artisan, a supporter of countless causes and struggles, one of which is the fight for the right to squat starting with the first squats in Mexico City to the Okupa Che (which he has been a part for almost its entire existence of more than 20 years), a compañero who was raised and schooled by the streets of the great Tenochtitlán from a very young age. That’s right, Jorge is of the people from below, the same people who, according to the struggles won by UNAM students and teachers over the decades, should be included as part of their community, but in this and numerous other situations, we see that the opposite is true.

The long series of hearings in his case just came to an end, and during the process the lawyers who have worked in solidarity on his case, demonstrated his innocence over and over again with concrete evidence such as a dactyloscopy of objects that according to the police were in his possession but do not present a single fingerprint of Jorge’s, contradictory and inconsistent statements by the police officer responsible for his arrest, witnesses who were present at the time of his first arrest for this same case in 2016 and were able see for their own eyes that, in addition to the fact that he was not at any time carrying the famous blue backpack filled to the brim with a ridiculous amount of a variety of drugs that no drug dealer in their sane or unsound mind would carry with them in the streets, Jorge was subjected to police brutality and torture when he was detained.

Last week the judge authorized the closing of the preliminary investigation and now we are waiting for his sentence. Legally no sentence other than that of absolute innocence and therefore an order for his immediate release should be given, but if we are speaking in legal terms, Jorge would have no reason to be in prison or to have this case against him in the first place, given that it has been demonstrated with constancy and with convincing evidence that the charges against him are fabricated and the reasons for his imprisonment are political, not legal.

If we do not raise our voices, if we do not raise awareness about this and each one of the growing number of cases of fabrication of crimes as a strategy of the Mexican State to criminalize those who struggle, and if we stick with our excuses for not supporting Yorch by demanding that he be released in the face of this set-up orchestrated by the UNAM with the participation of the public prosecutor, the courts, the jails (Jorge has been in three different prisons in three different states since the beginning of this process in 2016) and the media, all with the complicity of that thing called Ms. Civil Society, then they will give him whatever sentence that they feel like and that suits this group of real criminals, and the Mexican State will once again succeed in legitimizing its already increasingly perfected practice of fabricating crimes against anyone and anything that is a hindrance to its reign.

It is time to agitate and organize with all our creativity to demand the immediate release of our compañero Yorch, and of all the prisoners from far and wide.

Semana Internacional en Solidaridad con Presxs Anarquistas, Jorge «Yorch» Esquivel ¡¡¡LIBRE YA!!!

El día de hoy, en este primer día de la Semana Internacional de Solidaridad con lxs Presxs Anarquistas, Jorge «Yorch» Esquivel cumple 259 días como rehén del Estado mexicano dentro de los muros del Reclusorio Oriente. 259 días y noches robados de su vida que nadie le podrá regresar. La razón principal por la que él se encuentra detrás de las rejas es la existencia en sí del complejo industrial carcelario, del aparato represor de «seguridad» del Estado, y de las formas de castigo que jamás llegarán a reinsertar, reformar o sanar a nadie, sino totalmente lo contrario.

La razón específica en el caso de Jorge es la fabricación de delitos como parte de un montaje creado por la UNAM con la finalidad de criminalizar la lucha en su obsesión enfermiza por desalojar el Auditorio de la Okupa Che, pero de modo que cuente con el visto bueno de la comunidad de personas cuya opinión les es importante para seguir manteniendo su apreciable reputación dentro y fuera del país.

Si quisieran, las autoridades estarían en todo su «derecho» de desalojar y encarcelar a quien estuviera dentro del espacio en el momento de hacer un operativo con la demanda legal de despojo de su propiedad, pero como eso dañaría dicha reputación, entonces les ha sido más conveniente armar lo que inició con una campaña mediática de desprecio que reducía a la Okupa Che y quienes participan en ella, a un espacio de violentxs criminales pseudoestudiantes que se dedican a vender drogas a lxs santxs inocentes de la comunidad estudiantil de la UNAM, entre otras actividades delictivas. Para eso, encontraron a la persona perfecta para ponerle cara de protagonista principal de su narrativa fantasiosa y falsa, y esa persona fue y sigue siendo nuestro compañero Jorge, punk y anarquista, cocinero (eso sí, ¡sus mixiotes son harto adictivos!) y artesano, solidario con un sinfín de causas y luchas, entre ellas la lucha por la ocupación desde las primeras okupas en el DF hasta la Okupa Che (de la cual ha formado parte durante casi toda su existencia de más de 20 años), compañero nuestro cuya escolarización y crianza fueron a cargo de las calles de la gran Tenochtitlán desde muy pequeña edad. Así es, Jorge es del pueblo de abajo, ese mismo pueblo que, según las luchas ganadas por estudiantes y maestrxs de la UNAM a lo largo de las décadas, debería ser incluido como parte de su comunidad, pero la realidad nos demuestra en esta y numerosas otras situaciones todo lo contrario.

La larga serie de audiencias de su caso recién llegó a su final, y durante el proceso los abogados solidarios demostraron su inocencia una y otra vez con diversas evidencias como pruebas dactiloscópicas de objetos que según el MP eran de su posesión pero no presentan ni una sola huella de Jorge, declaraciones contrariadas e inconsistentes por parte del policía responsable de su detención, testigos que estuvieron presentes a la hora de su primera detención por este mismo caso en 2016 y pudieron ver por sus propios ojos que, además de que no llevaba en ningún momento la famosa mochila azul llena hasta el tope de una cantidad ridícula de variedad de drogas que ningún diler en su sana o no-sana mente llevaría consigo en la calle, Jorge fue arrestado con el uso de brutalidad policiaca y tortura.

La semana pasada el juez autorizó el cierre de instrucción y ahora lo que procede es esperar a la sentencia. Legalmente no tendrían por qué emitir sentencia alguna que no sea la de inocencia absoluta y por ende dictar su libertad inmediata, en términos legales Jorge no tendría por qué estar en la prisión ni por qué tener este caso en su contra dado que se ha demostrado con constancia y con pruebas contundentes que los cargos en su contra son fabricados y las razones de su encarcelamiento son políticas, no legales.

Si no alzamos la voz, si no hacemos visible este y cada uno del creciente número de casos de fabricación de delitos como estrategia del Estado mexicano para criminalizar a quienes luchan, y si nos quedamos con nuestros pretextos para no exigir la libertad del compañero Yorch ante este montaje orquestado por la UNAM con la participación del MP, los juzgados, las cárceles (a Jorge le ha tocado pisar tres prisiones diferentes en tres estados diferentes desde el inicio de este proceso en 2016), los medios y la complicidad de esa cosa llamada Señora Sociedad Civil, entonces dictarán la sentencia que se les antoje y les convenga a esta bola de verdaderxs criminales, y el Estado mexicano logrará legitimar su práctica ya cada vez más perfeccionada de la fabricación de delitos una vez más en contra de todo lo que sea un estorbo para su dominio.

Es momento de agitar y organizarnos con toda nuestra creatividad para exigir la libertad inmediata de nuestro compañero Yorch y de todxs lxs presxs a lo largo y ancho de esta tierra.
